New Delhi, June 25:
A video capturing rainwater leaking through the roof of an AC coach in the Vande Bharat Express has gone viral, raising concerns over maintenance standards and passenger comfort in one of India’s flagship semi-high-speed trains. The incident occurred on the Varanasi–New Delhi route, where the C7 coach experienced continuous water seepage during the journey.
The viral clip, shared widely across social media platforms, shows water dripping steadily from the ceiling, creating a puddle-like situation inside the coach. Passengers, including Darshil Mishra seated at berth number 76, were forced to travel in discomfort. Mishra reportedly alerted the onboard staff, but no immediate action was taken to address the issue.
As the footage circulated online, it sparked a wave of reactions from netizens, many of whom expressed their disappointment with the train’s condition. One user sarcastically renamed the train “Vande Baarish Express,” while another demanded ticket refunds. “Make in India doesn’t mean poor quality,” wrote a concerned user, calling for stricter quality control and safety measures.
The Vande Bharat Express, often promoted as a symbol of India’s advancing rail infrastructure, has faced occasional technical and operational setbacks since its launch. Incidents such as this are being seen as a blow to the image of modernisation and reliability that the train represents.
Railway authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter. Passengers and citizens alike are calling for a thorough inspection of the coach, better quality checks, and swift measures to ensure passenger safety and comfort in future journeys.
