Agartala, June 27
Tripura is all set to celebrate the annual Rath Yatra Festival:
Tripura is all set to celebrate the annual Rath Yatra festival beginning June 27, with vibrant week-long religious festivities planned across the state. While the main events will take place in Agartala and Melaghar, towns and localities throughout Tripura are preparing to mark the occasion with devotion and enthusiasm.
The Rath Yatra commemorates the ceremonial journey of Lord Jagannath, along with Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra, from their main temple to the Gundicha Temple, symbolically considered their aunt’s abode. Rooted in centuries-old tradition, this is one of the most revered festivals in the Hindu calendar.
According to West Tripura Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar K, permission has been granted for six to seven processions across the district. The major yatras will be conducted by three key religious organizations: ISKCON Agartala, Hare Krishna Temple, and Jagannath Jiu Temple managed by Sri Chaitanya Gaudiya Math.
To ensure safety and smooth conduct of the celebrations, security arrangements have been intensified. Personnel from the CRPF, Tripura State Rifles, and Tripura Police will be deployed at major procession points and routes.
All chariots have undergone advance inspection, with strict safety protocols in place. The use of metallic materials on outer structures has been restricted, and the maximum height of chariot pinnacles has been capped at five metres.
In view of the expected crowds, Tripura Police has issued detailed traffic regulations and diversions:
