Sneha Debnath Missing Case Delhi shocks nation as 19-year-old Tripura girl disappears near Signature Bridge

New Delhi, July 13 – A 19-year-old student from Tripura, Sneha Debnath, has gone missing in Delhi under suspicious circumstances, prompting a search operation by Delhi Police and raising serious concerns over the safety of students in the national capital.

Sneha, a second-year student at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College under Delhi University, was last in contact with her family on the morning of July 7. According to her parents, Sneha had called her mother around 5:56 a.m., informing her that she was going to Sarai Rohilla railway station with a friend named Pitunia. However, Pitunia later told the family that she never met Sneha that day.

Sneha’s phone was switched off shortly after the call, and there has been no contact since. Based on a phone tracking report, her location was last traced to the area near Signature Bridge in north Delhi. A cab driver, whom the family contacted independently, confirmed that he had dropped Sneha at the bridge area early that morning.

Delhi Police have registered a case of kidnapping and launched a search operation in and around the Signature Bridge vicinity. However, efforts have been hindered due to the absence of functional CCTV cameras in the area. Search teams, including personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), have scoured a 7-kilometre radius but have not found any conclusive leads.

According to reports, Sneha had left without any belongings, and her bank account has shown no transaction activity in the last four months. These details have added to the concerns of her family, who fear foul play.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has taken note of the incident and directed Tripura Police to coordinate with Delhi authorities for swift action. In a post on social media, the Chief Minister said,

“We are in touch with Delhi Police and all possible steps are being taken to trace Sneha at the earliest.”

Sneha’s disappearance has sparked anxiety among students from the Northeast region studying in Delhi. Student bodies and civil society groups have demanded a more transparent investigation and improved safety measures for women, particularly those from marginalised regions.

As of now, Delhi Police continue to investigate the case, and the family has appealed to the public to come forward with any information that may help trace Sneha Debnath.
