Selling drugs in Shoe Shop: Tripura Police Bust Drug Racket
Agartala, August 11, 2025 — What looked like an ordinary shoe shop in Agartala’s bustling Battala area turned out to be a cover for a thriving drug racket. Acting on a tip-off, West Agartala police raided the store on Monday, uncovering a hidden stash of narcotics.
During the operation, officers seized 5.1 grams of brown sugar, 2 kilograms of marijuana, and ₹5,550 in cash from the premises. Three people, including the shop’s owner, were taken into custody.
Police sources said the shop was being used as a front to peddle drugs, blending illegal trade with regular business to avoid suspicion. “It was a well-disguised operation, but our team acted swiftly once we had solid intelligence,” an officer said.
Investigations are now underway to track the supply chain and identify other members of the network. Authorities say the bust is part of their intensified crackdown on narcotics trafficking in Tripura, which has seen a worrying rise in recent years.
