Agartala, June 22 (Northeast Press):
A high-level late-night meeting convened by BJP’s Tripura unit president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee has triggered widespread political curiosity and speculation about potential organizational reshuffles within the party. The closed-door meeting, held at the BJP headquarters in Krishna Nagar, was attended by seven ministers including IPFT’s Shukla Charan Noatia, raising questions about key developments ahead of upcoming elections and internal party dynamics.
While Rajib Bhattacharjee’s social media post described the meeting as a discussion on implementing an all-India programme of the party, insiders suggest the agenda may have been significantly broader and more politically charged.
According to BJP sources, the ministers present included Ratan Lal Nath, Pranjit Singha Roy, Sushanta Chowdhury, Tinku Roy, Santana Chakma, Bikash Debbarma, and Shukla Charan Noatia of IPFT. Notably, the two Tipra Motha ministers were absent, along with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Minister Sudhangshu Das, a known close aide of former CM Biplab Kumar Deb.
Adding to the intrigue, senior tribal leaders such as Bipin Debbarma and Rampada Jamatya were also seen at the meeting, while some key party figures including MLA Bhagwan Das and state general secretary Amit Rakshit did not attend.
Sources speculate that the meeting may have touched upon multiple pressing issues — including preparations for the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections due in April next year, the feasibility of holding Village Committee elections later this year, and the perceived political distancing and independent conduct of Tipra Motha, a BJP ally.
However, what has drawn the most attention is the growing buzz around the state BJP leadership. With Rajib Bhattacharjee already serving as a Rajya Sabha MP, it is widely believed that he may step down from the party president post. The BJP constitution generally discourages dual office-bearers, and speculation is rife that a leadership transition is imminent. While no official announcement has been made, party insiders expect a formal declaration on the next state BJP president by next month.
The hush surrounding the meeting and the somber expressions of attendees have only deepened public and media interest. With ADC elections nearing and internal party cohesion becoming critical, the Tripura BJP appears poised for a crucial organizational shake-up.
