Bangladeshi Armed Group PCJSS Under Mizoram Police Scanner Over Cross-Border Crimes

Agartala / Aizawl, July 31: Security agencies in Northeast India have turned their attention toward the Parbottya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) — a banned armed political group from Bangladesh — following serious allegations of cross-border crimes. The group is reportedly under surveillance by the Mizoram Police, amid concerns over its suspected involvement in arms trafficking, narcotics smuggling, and illegal cattle trade along the India–Bangladesh border.

PCJSS, which has operated for decades in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh, is said to have clandestine networks in Mizoram and South Tripura, particularly in areas with close ethnic ties and porous borders. Intelligence reports suggest that some of its operatives may have illegally crossed into Indian territory, using remote forested areas to avoid detection.

The scrutiny intensified after villagers in South Tripura district held protests demanding the immediate expulsion of PCJSS-linked individuals allegedly hiding in tribal settlements near the Indo-Bangla border. Local leaders have accused them of spreading unrest and conducting illegal activities under the radar of enforcement agencies.

“This is a grave national security issue. We cannot allow foreign armed groups to operate from Indian soil, regardless of their political cause,”

said a protestor in Belonia.

Mizoram Police confirmed ongoing monitoring but did not officially name any individuals or locations under investigation. “We are coordinating with border intelligence and central agencies. Any unlawful presence will be dealt with under appropriate legal provisions,” said a senior official.

This development adds to the complex security challenges in the Northeast, especially in border states like Tripura and Mizoram, where ethnicity, geography, and political sympathies often intersect in sensitive ways.

Meanwhile, Tripura’s opposition parties have demanded a high-level inquiry, while state officials remain tight-lipped.

As border security becomes a top priority for both state and central governments, the issue has sparked fresh discussions about the need for upgraded surveillance infrastructure and community-level cooperation in remote areas.
