Parliament Monsoon Session: Operation Sindoor sees opening remarks by Rajnath Singh amid strong opposition criticism

New Delhi, July 28, 2025 — The Parliament Monsoon Session witnessed renewed intensity today as the Lok Sabha began a 16-hour-long debate on Operation Sindoor, India’s military retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack. The session resumed at 2 pm following several adjournments caused by disruptions earlier in the day.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh opened the floor by detailing the success of Operation Sindoor, noting that nine terror camps were targeted and over 100 terrorists neutralised in the cross-border operation. Singh reiterated that the operation is currently paused but could resume if provoked.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, addressing speculation, clarified that no conversation occurred between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then–US President Donald Trump during the operation. He added that India’s diplomatic strategy has remained firm and transparent throughout the crisis.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi criticised the government over intelligence failures that allegedly led to the Pahalgam attack, questioning how terrorists infiltrated a secure zone disguised as soldiers. Meanwhile, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor remained silent in Parliament, later responding with the word “maunvrat” (vow of silence) when approached by media.

Trinamool Congress also raised its voice, demanding a clear schedule for debates on both Operation Sindoor and the nationwide voter roll revision initiative, warning of democratic backsliding if electoral processes are disrupted.

Despite a delayed start, today’s debate marked one of the most heated sessions of the ongoing Parliament Monsoon Session, as national security and electoral integrity took center stage.
