After a brief stall, After a Brief Stall Monsoon in India is Back. India’s southwest monsoon has advanced further the country, bringing much relief from scorching heat to millions of households and agricultural regions.
After arriving early in Kerala on May 24, the Monsoon in India spread over southern, northeastern, and parts of western India but hit a pause around May 29. The concurrent spell of heatwaves made citizens anxious across northern regions. The IMD(India Meteorological Department) confirmed that the rains have picked up again, now advancing into Western and Central part of India.
Why it matters:
- Agriculture lifeline: Nearly 50% the farmlands in India lacks irrigation and depends mostly on monsoon rains. The IMD forecasts above-average rainfall in June, supporting vital crops like rice, soy, corn, cotton, and sugarcane.
- Economic ripple effect: Proper rainfall stabilizes incomes in rural areas, caps food inflation and supports rural-driven economic recovery with projections showing at 106% of the long-term average.
- Heat relief: People take sigh of relief as temperatures dropped from extreme highs in Rajasthan and UP as rain redirects atmospheric conditions, potentially reducing heat-related illnesses and casualties.

India has received 31% less rainfall than average in the first half of this month. But in the second half is set to receive above average rainfall.
In the next few days, Monsoon rains are set to cover most parts of the country before the end of this month, the official said.
Heatwaves this year has caused a lot of difficulties for the citizens although it’s less than the last year. But this monsoon rain brought smile on the faces of the citizens as they got relief from heatwaves and water shortages.
