Aizawl, June 23:
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has officially launched Vision 2036, an ambitious initiative aimed at preparing young athletes from the state to compete at the 2036 Olympic Games. The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the Olympic Day Run held at Lammual on Monday.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Lalduhoma reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to nurturing sporting talent.
“Mizoram has so far produced only two Olympians. We believe that many of our youths possess the potential to represent India at the Olympics. Vision 2036 is a strategic move to identify and train them from a young age so they can reach the global stage,” he said.
The Chief Minister also spoke about the power of sports in bringing communities together and fostering social harmony. The event was organised by the Mizoram Olympic Association and was also attended by State Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar.
Vision 2036 is closely aligned with the Empowering Mizoram Sports (EMS) programme, launched earlier this year as part of the flagship ‘Bana Kaih’ scheme. EMS focuses on establishing coaching and talent development centres across the state, with a special emphasis on athletes aged 8 to 15.
Through these initiatives, Mizoram aims to build a strong foundation for future Olympians and strengthen its reputation as a hub of athletic excellence in India.
