Dog Meat Sale in Tripura Triggers Outcry, Investigation Launched

Kailashahar, Tripura —
A disturbing video has surfaced from Ward No. 1 of Hirachara ADC Village in Kailashahar, allegedly showing dog meat being sold in the open. The footage, now viral across social media platforms, has shocked citizens and animal rights activists alike.

In the video, dogs appear to be skinned and displayed for sale in a local market setup. While the exact date of the incident is still being verified, sources suggest the footage is recent and has triggered a public outcry for immediate government action.

Animal welfare organizations, including People for Animals (PFA), have strongly condemned the act, calling it a gross violation of India’s animal protection laws. They have urged the Tripura government to take strict legal action against the individuals involved.

Tripura’s Animal Husbandry Department has reportedly begun an internal investigation, though no arrests or public statements have been made yet. The issue has also brought to the forefront questions about the lack of enforcement of animal welfare laws in tribal and remote areas.

Dog meat consumption, while culturally debated in parts of Northeast India, remains illegal under Indian law. This is the first such incident reported from Kailashahar in recent memory, raising concerns over unregulated and underground meat trades in rural areas.
