BJP–TIPRA Motha Alliance Faces Setback After Union Home Minister’s Inconclusive Meeting

Agartala, July 31:
The fragile alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and TIPRA Motha appears to be on shaky ground once again, as a recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah failed to produce any concrete resolution on key tribal issues in Tripura.

The meeting, held in New Delhi, was attended by TIPRA Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma and senior party leaders, who reiterated their long-standing demand for constitutional safeguards for the indigenous population under Article 244(A). However, sources say the discussions remained inconclusive, further widening the trust gap between the two political players.

While TIPRA Motha leaders remained tight-lipped following the meeting, insiders revealed that the Union Minister urged the party to “wait patiently” for a “constitutional and administrative” solution — a phrase that has become all too familiar without tangible results.

In Tripura, this development has triggered speculation over the party’s future in the state’s coalition politics. BJP state leaders have avoided direct comments but admitted that “communication gaps remain,” especially on matters related to the Greater Tipraland demand and tribal autonomy within the TTAADC.

TIPRA Motha supporters, meanwhile, have taken to social media expressing frustration over the lack of clarity and pace in resolving tribal concerns. Many allege that the BJP has not honored its earlier promise of a meaningful constitutional solution, made during the 2023 assembly polls and subsequent peace talks.

With the upcoming ADC elections on the horizon, the political fault lines are once again beginning to show. Analysts believe that unless both parties arrive at a mutual understanding soon, the BJP–TIPRA alliance may collapse entirely — potentially paving the way for a realignment in tribal politics.
