Itanagar, June 23:
Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik on Monday lauded the Indian Army for its steadfast commitment to safeguarding the state’s borders and maintaining peace in strategically sensitive areas.
The Governor held a meeting with Major General Vivek Bakshi, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 56 Infantry Division, at the Raj Bhavan in Itanagar. During the discussion, he expressed confidence in the Army’s preparedness along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and reaffirmed its vital role in upholding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The interaction covered a wide range of topics, including the prevailing security scenario along the LAC, disaster readiness, and welfare initiatives for ex-servicemen and ‘veer naris’ (war widows). Governor Parnaik emphasised the need for enhanced civil-military synergy to effectively address these challenges.
Highlighting successful joint efforts in areas like infrastructure development, disaster response, and outreach programs, the Governor particularly praised the Army’s proactive engagement with local communities. He also underscored the importance of collaborative implementation of flagship initiatives such as the Vibrant Villages Programme, which aims to bring sustainable development to remote border areas.
Calling for more welfare-oriented initiatives, the Governor advocated for job fairs, medical camps, and pension outreach programs in far-flung regions to ensure that veterans and their families receive the support they deserve.
Governor Parnaik’s remarks reflect the growing emphasis on cooperation between civilian authorities and the armed forces to build resilient border communities and strengthen national security.
